Twitter introduces Bitcoin tipping for iOS users via Lightning

It is becoming easier to pay people with cryptocurrencies as more companies are launching ways to send and receive cryptos
The social media giant, Twitter has officially launched its tip function globally. The tip function comes with a Bitcoin (BTC) integration added via the Lightning network. It allows Twitter users to tip each other with BTC using the Lightning Network.
Twitter has been testing the tipping service for the past few months but finally launched it yesterday. The service is available to iOS users at the moment, but Android users are also expected to gain access to it soon. According to Twitter, users can connect nine payment apps, including the likes of Venmo and Cash App, to their profiles to accept tips.
However, Twitter isn’t processing the payments itself. The BTC payments are processed by Strike, a Bitcoin wallet app that operates on the Lightning Network protocol.
Strike is available in every state across the United States except New York and Hawaii. It also provides services in Bitcoin friendly countries like El Salvador. Twitter users can add their BTC lightning wallet or their regular Bitcoin address to send and receive tips in Bitcoin.
Twitter will notify users when they receive BTC via Strike. This will allow them to quickly reply to the sender to say thanks. The social media giant will also generate invoices for users to easily track the tips they receive.
Esther Crawford, Twitter’s product lead for creator monetisation, said Bitcoin is one of the best solutions that allow people to transact, especially in the underbanked regions of the world. She added that the company intends to support authentication for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by allowing people to connect their cryptocurrency wallets.
The NFT authentication is expected to come in the form of a badge on a user’s profile picture, marking the owner’s NFT as authentic.
